Riders Code of Conduct

This conduct applies to fixed routes and demand response vehicles. Violations on one will carry to other. Violations of an of these may result in an offense in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Offenses

 

  • First Offense: the first violation of this code may result in suspension of transit services for a period no longer than one week 
  • Second offense: the second violation of this code within 12-months of the first offense may result in a suspension of transit services for a period no longer than one month 
  • Third offense: the third violation of this code within 18-months of the second offense may result in a suspension of transit services for a period no longer than one year 

Clothing

  •  Wear appropriated clothing, including shirts and shoes at all times  

Payment

  •  Have exact change ready, drivers are not able to issue change  

Timeliness

  • Be at the bus stop before the scheduled departure time  

Carry On’s

  • Items must be manageable 
  • Items must be contained to person 
  • Items can not be in aisle or on seats 

Prohibited Items

  •  No illegal drugs, flammable/explosive materials, and open alcoholic beverages onto WRTA vehicles 
  • If alcohol container is opened, you will be asked to dispose of at the next stop or depart from the vehicle 

Animals

 

  • Animals may ride on a space available basis. If a transit vehicle is at capacity and there is no room to accommodate the animal, even if complying with all other terms, may be asked to wait for the next vehicle.  

Animals Continued

 

  •  Any animal, including service animals, may be denied transportation if not under control or acting in a disruptive manner (including, but not limited to showing aggressive behavior, barking excessively, lunging, growling, nipping, and physically touching others such as pawing). If such behavior is observed, the passenger/handler will be asked to remove their animal from the vehicle.   

Animals Continued

  •   Allergic reactions from other passengers or fear of an animal are sufficient grounds to remove and animal other than service animals. Other passengers should be aware that service animals are not included and can depart from vehicle if needed.     

Children

 

  • Children must be removed from strollers and be folded and stowed away while bus is in motion 
  • Neglecting to prove proper supervision of children under the age of thirteen (13), by enabling them to use transit without an accompanying parent, guardian, or adult, and/or failure to provide adequate supervision enabling youths to follow the code of conduct. 
  • Children under 13 ride free 
  • Demand Response: If traveling with a child requiring a car seat, bring and secure the seat into the vehicle yourself 

Personal Hygiene

  •  Maintain reasonable personal hygiene and avoid strong body orders while riding

Disruptive Behavior

 

  • Behave appropriately when interacting with drivers, dispatchers, and fellow riders. Absolutely no physical threats or abuse.  
  • Obscene language or actions are not allowed 
  • Please use headphones for your electronic devices and keep your conversations as quiet as possible to avoid disrupting other passengers.  


Cleanliness

  • Keep the bus clean and free of litter 
  • If you bring it on, take it off 

Smoking/Vaping

  • Smoking and vaping are prohibited in WRTA vehicles  

Respect for Personal Space

  • Respect personal space and be mindful of fellow passengers’ comfort during the journey.  

Seat belts (Demand response only)

  •  Wear seat belts for the entire ride; all WRTA SafeRide vehicles are equipped with them 

Equipment

  •  Do not operate or tamper with any vehicle or driver equipment. 

No flash photography or recording

  •  Please refrain from taking flash photos or videos while the vehicle is in motion  

Departing the Vehicle

  •  Leave the vehicle when requested by the driver or any transportation/law enforcement official take all belongings with you; WRTA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items  

Food and Drink

  • Food and drinks are permitted 
  • Drinks must have a lid or be in a can  
  • If mess is made you are responsible for clean up
